Welcome to 2023-24 Pre-Kindergarten at New Prospect Elementary School! I am looking forward to an exciting year! Curriculum Night will be on Thursday, August 24. On that evening, I will describe the pre-kindergarten program and you will have the opportunity to see how our classroom works. Please mark your calendars and secure a babysitter as soon as possible. I hope to see you there!
I want to make our new students feel safe and secure in their new environment. Please read over the following items, and if you have any questions, contact me by email: [email protected]
Transportation Please discuss with your child how he/she will be coming to and going home from school. If your child rides the bus, allow him/her to do so from the beginning. Please let me know your child’s bus number as soon as possible. Safety is a top priority at New Prospect! If your child needs to leave school early, or there is a change in his/her afternoon transportation, please send a note or call the office. When you arrive at school to pick up your child, check in at the office. The office will call down to the classroom for your child to be escorted to the office. Absences If your child is absent, please send a written note explaining the absence on the day that your child returns to school. Remember school starts at 7:40 am. We know crazy things can happen in the morning but arriving late makes it difficult for your child to get into the routine. Please be on time as much as possible. Breakfast Please let me know if you would like your child to receive a school breakfast each morning or if your child will be eating breakfast at home. We will be eating breakfast in the classroom between 7:10-7:40 am. Lunch You may send a lunch from home in your child’s backpack, or your child can receive a school lunch. We will eat in the cafeteria each day. Please feel free to join us for lunch after the first few weeks of school. (We need some time to acclimate!)
Snack We will have snack time every day. I encourage you to send one nutritious snack, such as fruit or pretzels. You may also send a water bottle with your child’s name on it. Please do not send candy. If you are sending both a snack and a lunch from home, please pack them separately so we can easily identify which is which. We eat our snack in the classroom typically around 8:45 am. Rest Time We will have a rest time after lunch each day where we will Drop Everything and Read. Please send a small blanket in your child’s backpack on Mondays. We will keep it in the classroom during the week and return it every other Friday for cleaning. Clothing Clothes should be comfortable and practical. We will be painting, gluing, playing games on the floor, and going outside when weather permits. To encourage independence, select clothes, shoes, and jackets that your child can handle with the least amount of assistance. Please send one extra set of clothes to be kept at school for possible accidents. Please write your child’s name on anything you send to school!
Folders Your child will have a classroom folder that comes home daily for notes or information. Please check these folders each day for papers to be signed and returned. Your child will also receive "Thursday papers" in their folder from New Prospect each week with schoolwide information. All folders should be returned the following day.
Birthdays You are welcome to send a birthday treat to share with classmates on your child’s special day! Please email me in advance to let me know the item you will be sending so I can plan for anyone who has allergies. We are unable to give out birthday invitations through school folders, so please do not send birthday party invitations to school. Thank you for understanding!
Communication I love to communicate as much as possible! I am always available by email and check it in the mornings and after school each day. I will send a parent update on classroom activities each week to celebrate our learning and inform of upcoming events. This will be emailed to you and will also be on our classroom Weebly website at fleckskindergartenclass.weebly.com.
